Back to school, Back to school, To prove to Dad that I'm not a fool

September 3, 2008

And no, this picture is not of me. Although it is what I feel like at the moment; which definitely counts for something.

One last year! Yes, it is finally here. After many years, Marcus and I are finally at our Super Senior year of BYU. However, Marcus starts Law School next year so he's not quite done, yet. What a past few days we have had. After an enjoyable one week (summer break) back at home, Marcus and I drove to Provo then unpacked into our apartment on Monday.

Yesterday we started classes bright and early and they went much better than expected. In the years past, I would walk up to campus and try to avoid any people (bad roommates, old exes, etc.) that might be lurking on campus. But this year all of them have graduated. Yahoo! So I can now walk around campus in bliss and not be afraid of running into an old foe. (For example, When walking into a grocery store, you see someone from high school, and instead of saying hello, you turn your gaze and walk the other way.) I do it all the time. In fact, me and one of my college roommates,
Brianne, would often do this and when we would see someone on campus, we would send out the text message "Code Blue!" to each other. It's not that I don't like to be friendly, it's just that by avoiding those "people-you-don't-want-to-see" you avoid any awkward confrontations. Do any of your do this? It's a terrible habit, but hopefully I'm not alone.

As for our classes, Marcus and I both scheduled all of them on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so we only go to school two days a week! Sounds like a breeze right? Well, truth is that means we are on campus (in classes) from 8am to 6:30pm which are some LONG DAYS I tell ya. By the end of the day, my brain is fried. Poor Marcus, he is taking the LSAT on October 4th so he goes to classes on Tues and Thurs. and studies all day for the LSAT on Mon, Wed, Fri, and Sat. So again, I am faced with the dilemma of not having a husband around. So what do I do all day? I study a lot, I'm starting a new workout program (Okay so I just started today, but trust me, it's an accomplishment that I even started), and I can now spend my days on campus, avoidance free! I'm excited to see what else this semester will have in store for us.

Those are two LONG days... good luck this semester.

And if I ever see you texting code blue in my presence I'll know to be totally offended. ;)

Ash, good luck with the workout. Just think how good you'll look in Hawaii :)

Loved your title. :)

And I am so glad to know I am not the only one who avoids making eye contact with people from high school at all costs. I will literally turn the other direction or pretend I didn't see them. Who wants the awkward, "Hi! What have you been up to?" Like we care. I always thought I was rude and anti-social, so I am thrilled to hear this is normal.

Good luck this semester! School is tough, but it really does fly by and then you find yourself missing it..at least the atmosphere and vacations, not so much the homework and tests. I guess I'm kind of wierd--I always kind of looked for people I knew from the past because I was curious whatever happened to them. There's only a couple people I would avoid, but I've never ever run into them again.

I thought I was the only one that still sang the Billy Madison song whenever I started school! Haha! Hope the semester is a good one! And way to start an exercise program...you inspire me since I've long dropped mine...oops.

Haha oh Brianne, anyone who reads this and is on my list I never avoided on campus. Just mainly ex's and some roommates from junior year. No code blues yet on campus this year!

Megan, I like how you're the one that inspired me and now you've long dropped your workouts. What happened!? And that doesn't give me too much hope now :)

You should totally go introduce yourself to Claudy. I don't think he has any friends in his classes anymore since they've all graduated. yea, he's a sociology major so I swear that's all he's taking this semester...so which one are you in? I'm actually still working on campus until I find a full time job. I'm just applying for anything that has benefits and is full time, I'm not even gonna try to break into the SLC market, so no journalism/broadcast for now...maybe when we move. But if I can be of any help for your class please let me know :)

Ted and I scheduled our classes for Tues/Thurs as well. I hate being there so late!

I too avoid people I knew in high school. It is so awkward!

That is such a long day of classes! Sorry...but I don't miss going to school at all. Sometimes I look at my diploma from BYU and think, YUCK! :) I am so glad I did it but so not fun!
