MONT BLANC AND CHAMONIX

August 20, 2018

We were all excited to travel to Chamonix, France. Marcus’ coworkers had been there the week before and it was so fun to be able to see their pictures from the week previously. After checking in to our hotel, Harper was SO excited to take the train. We took the train ride up to a glacier cave and found out we had to take 500 steps down to it. Which also meant we’d have to take 500 steps up but we decided to go for it. We told Harper it was Elsa’s ice castle and that was motivation enough for her. She climbed down every step by herself and I couldn’t believe how big our oldest has become. Now going up those stairs was a different story, but it’s a small win so we’ll take it. We had to carry both girls up and they both fell asleep in our backpacks on the way up. I was glad we had thrown our jackets in at the last minute too! Elle just wanted to keep licking the walls of the glacier, and it was like being in a different world!

After the cutest breakfast at our hotel, complete with fresh squeezed juices, crescents, granola, pastries and fruit, we left Elle with Marcus’ parents and headed up to Mont Blanc. I couldn’t believe how far we would travel in the cable car! And when we got to the top it made me a little nervous. Children under 3 aren’t permitted and under 5 is strongly discouraged but Harper did great-until she fell asleep when we finally got to the tippy top of the mountain. I was so worried she passed out from the elevation, but instead she was just suffering from some serious jet lag.

The view from the top has to be one of the best views we’d ever witnessed! And to look out on the mountain climbers who were climbing above and below was seriously crazy. It gave me some serious anxiety to watch them descend from the "climbers only" ledge! They were so brave! It was hard to come back down from such a pretty sight when you could see all of the different mountain peaks for miles.
